Peter's Train
by: Amanda Laws November 1, 1999
Once upon a time in a Monkee world not too far away, Peter was happily setting up his new toy train. In the spare room of the Monkees pad. He smiled widely and proudly as he leaned back looking over the set up he had worked so hard on., not to ,mention saved his money for. The tracks delicately winding in-between little green trees and bushes, which had a small town neatly tucked into them with the smallest of details, from the train station to the girl walking her dog. He held up the last piece, a little sign reading "Clarksville"
He held it up before the small people, which were carefully placed to accent his master piece. He then lowered it as he glanced around to make sure he was alone, seeing he was, he looked back to his set up and carefully placed the sign by the road that came out of the wall, through the town and off into dead air. Quickly checking to make sure the train is properly placed on the tracks he reaches for the remote. Finally, he waited for this to be complete for so. He turned the knob on the control giving it just enough power for the engine cars head light to light up, and as it does so, his eye do as well. He glances over his shoulder to make sure he was still alone, then returns his attention to his train.
"All aboard! Train now departing!"
He said happily, another quick glance to make sure the tables he used didn't move and separate the tracks. Seeing all was ready he moved the knob a little more, feeding his train more electricity. By doing so, the train starts to creep down the tracks. Pete bites his lip in excitement as he gives it enough power so that his train is going around the tracks at a good safe speed and so the train will produce a small amount of smoke. Pete couldn't help but clap as he watched his train run through the country side, past the farm house and cows, through the forest with the little deer, past the lake through more forest and country side then back through town to tale the trip again.
Peter takes three chairs and lines them up forming a bench of sorts, and lays down. Watching his train faithfully trucking around the track. Like a small boy, he soon falls asleep and begins to dream…of what?…. His train…..
Peter stands in a train station, handsomely dressed in a conductor's uniform, looking over a train route schedule. He looks over to the train as an attendant helps passengers on board. He smiles and strides to the train and gets on board heading right to the controls. As the people finish boarding his runs his hand over the train whistle knob. The attendant opens the door to the control room.
"Everyone's on board sir!" she cheerfully informs him then slinks back into the passenger cars. He looks to the microphone and reaches up taking it from its holder, holds it to his mouth takes a deep breath, holds down the button and begins to inform the passengers of the trip ahead…
"Hello everyone, I'm your conductor, Peter. We will be departing in a moment. If you will all please remain seated until the train begins moving, and has been moving for a good 5 minutes. Thank you and please enjoy your trip."
He lets the button go and reaches up putting the microphone back and proceeds with starting the train up. As it starts he pulls the whistle cord, and smiles as he hears the whistle and sees the people outside the train waving to the people inside.
The train started to go by the farm with the cows lounging in the fields, with the forest just a head and the town far behind. He stretches and can't help but smile again as they start through the forest and sees the deer feeding in the forest, they are soon out and start by the lake. He glances to the schedule, noting to himself that they will be in the city shortly. He looks up to see them go by some more fields and heading toward another town. Peter's smile fades as he realizes there is no town between Clarksville and the city! He try's to stop the train, but the controls don't work! The train goes through the town past the farm and back towards the forest again! He gets it that the train is on an auto pilot of sorts and can hear the passengers start to panic and a loud mouth making his way to the control car.
"Out of my way! Out of my way you imbeciles! Make way for the wizard!"
Peter turn to the door of the control car as it opens and there stands Wizard Glic with 2 hench men behind him. His eyes widen and he clenches his fist.
"What did you do to my train!" Peter demanded
"Your train? Looks like it's my train now! And these people are now my prisoners, and they will remain that way till I get what I want!" Wizard Glic said in a sniveling response fiddling with his hand.
Peter's face flooded with a look of utter confusion.
"What do you want?"
Wizard Glic raises his hand in a gesture toward Peter as if he was nothing.
"You imbecile, I want the train, and I shall have it!"
Peter growls inwardly and grabs onto the folds of his conductor coat by the buttons.
"It's my train you can't have it!"
He rips the coat off and underneath is his Monkee Man costume! His pants magically are gone, revealing the rest of the costume (it's a dream after all) Wizard Glic and his goons gasp and put their hands up to Peter. Peter holds his hand up and a rope appears in his hand with a *POP* sound. The three turn to run but when they turn there's Peter! With great Monkee Man speed, he runs around the three tying them up and shoving them into the corner. He looks up and over to see that he did this infront the passengers. A little girl screams out.
"The train is going to fast!"
Peter turns quickly and runs back to the controls and stops the train and sighs with relief. He can hear the passengers cheer as he saved them. Peter stretches and turns to see the attendant running to him.
"Peter! Oh Peter! Look what you have done!"
As the attendant stops infront him and takes his shoulder shaking it her voice turns into Mikes,
"Peter, buddy wake up you left the train on"
Peter becomes baffled then wakes up, looking to Mike he yawns and sits up.
"Yeah Mike?"
"I have to hand it to you, you did a great job man" Mike says in a compliment to Peter as he looks over the train set. Peter gets up and stops the train, make sure it stops at the station.
"Thanks Mike"
He sets the control down and gives Mike a quick hug and then walks out to the bedroom to get ready for bed. Mike looks over the train set again and smiles. He reaches over and pets the small dog that the girl is walking, and then laughs to himself noticing the bird nest with babies in one of the trees. He turns and walks out shutting the lights off on his way out and into the bedroom as Micky pats his drumsticks on the bedside table and Davy writes in his Diary. He looks to Peter who is curled up in his bed. He smiles and walk to his own bed and kneels down pulling out a brown card board box. He opens it and pulls out of the packing material a conductor hat and pin, the pin with Peter's name on it. He looks over to and walks to his bed side table silently and sets the hat and pin on it then sneaks away to his bed looking over to the other two that are now curled up, he shuts the lights off and crawls in his own bed closing his eyes.
The End
